Minerva Demyan, 79, of Blakely, died Monday at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Michael Demyan Jr., who died May 7, 2006.
Born in Blakely, daughter of the late Stanley and Cassie Hughes Griffiths, she was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Lackawanna Valley and a graduate of Blakely High School. Before retiring, she worked as a nurse at Community Medical Center and later as a housing manager for the Lackawanna County Housing Authority.
A loving, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she loved to spend time with her family. She was loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are two daughters, Michele Tucker, Blakely; and Dorothy Minelli, Peckville; two sons, Michael Demyan III, Blakely; and William Demyan, Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren, Justin Kopa; Philip, Tara and Lyndsey Minelli; Michael IV, Gabrielle Minerva, William C., Sarah and Isabella Demyan; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Boyd and Betty Piccioli, and four brothers, William, Stanley, Thomas and Titus Griffiths.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Peckville United Methodist Church, with services by the Rev. Virginia Miner, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church of Lackawanna Valley. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale.
Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, 702 River St., Peckville.
