James D. Oakey, 74, died Thursday at his home in Warrenton, Va., where he resided for the past eight years.
Born and raised in Dickson City, son of the late James Henry and Gertrude Dearie Oakey, he was a graduate of Dickson City High School. While residing in Dickson City, he attended the Dickson City Primitive Methodist Church. Before moving to Warrenton, he resided in Oakland, Calif., for 40 years and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Oakland Lodge #61. He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion Raymond Henry Post 327, Olyphant.


Surviving are a sister, Nancy, and husband Edward Kuranda, Louisa, Va.; two nephews, Kurt Kuranda, Rogers, Va., and James Kuranda, Fairfax, Va.; two nieces, Judith Kuranda, Fairfax, Va., and Nancy Kuranda Massey, Richmond, Va.; a great-nephew, Max Edward Kuranda; and a great-niece, Jenna Davis Massey.

The funeral will be Monday with services at 10 a.m. in the Dickson City Primitive Methodist Cemetery by the Rev. James Johnson, pastor, Dickson City Methodist Church.

Friends may call Sunday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 519 Dundaff St., Dickson City.
